Description
Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI) combines standard screening instruments and short-term intervention to reduce or eliminate harmful use of alcohol and drugs. Research demonstrates that SBI is highly effective at identifying and confronting problematic use of substances before it spirals into addiction. It is cost effective, simple to implement, and complements a comprehensive drug free workplace program. However, SBI is not widely used by EA professionals. This panel will present research findings and give a practical demonstration of SBI techniques that have been found successful in reducing the use of alcohol in the workplace.
Objectives:
• describe how SBI complements a comprehensive drug-free workplace program;
• incorporate SBI screening tools and brief and effective interventions into EA services;
• describe the benefits of integrating SBI into EA practice.
