Description
Learning Objectives: The session is designed for practising surgeons and surgical residents. At the end of the session, participants will be able to describe the epidemic of obesity in Canada; outline current medical and surgical options for obesity control; understand considerations behind the creation of bariatric surgery programs and identify the role of surgeons in the development of health policy relating to obesity; describe the current status of acute general surgery services in Canada; identify clinical and academic advantages and disadvantages of acute surgery training and establishment of acute surgery services; discuss options for the future of acute general surgery in Canada.
