Description
Since 2008, Fairfax County Public School (FCPS), located in the metropolitan Washington DC area, has faced record budget deficits. The 175,000 student system engaged its community and employees to help shape the $2.3 billion yearly budget. The Superintendent, School Board, and County Board led a discussion of values and budget priorities, ultimately creating buy-in. During the period, FCPS cut $465 million and 1,400 positions; however, the system, despite the grim budget, was able to keep several key technology initiatives moving forward including its Electronic Curriculum Assessment Resource Tool, created in partnership with Northrop Grumman. The session will include a presentation about this months-long budget process with a technology focus, including a lively question and answer period.
