Participants will learn about the Louisiana Department of Education’s innovative approach to establishing a state-wide online professional development program to address the critical need to improve student success in Algebra 1. Through a partnership with Education Development Center’s EdTech Leaders Online, the Louisiana Department of Education developed a series of 11 online modules on targeted topics of the Algebra 1 curriculum and then trained local math educators as online facilitators to deliver these modules to colleagues across the state. The Louisiana Department of Education also established a first-in-the nation add-on certification endorsement in Algebra 1 with completion of the 11 online modules as a central component. Participants will explore the interactive Algebra 1 modules, understand strategies for scaling up a state-wide online professional development programs, and discuss policy implications of online learning.
