Three school systems share their 1:1 laptop initiatives: Edgecombe County Schools and Greene County Schools (both in North Carolina); and Kent School District in Washington state. Implementation ranges from a successful initial year launch by Edgecombe to an ongoing six-year program by Greene. All teams will attest to the research and planning required up front; then the technical logistics personnel infrastructure curriculum decisions and staff development. To provide students with a rigorous relevant curriculum which makes them future-ready and globally competitive these systems know first-hand the importance of all being stakeholders in the process (including parents and community). Edgecombe Greene and Kent will share their challenges and successes giving evidences of their students and communities reaping the benefits. Participants will leave this sharing session with common steps to begin similar laptop initiatives as well as nuances specific to these systems of different sizes demographics and geographical location.
