Description
Many Open Source tools exist for collaborative work over time and distance yet very few districts manage to leverage this potential in the area of curriculum development. This session will showcase how Bering Strait School District (BSSD) has successfully replaced its traditional curriculum revision cycle with an Open Source wiki-based system with over 11500 of content standards rubrics and resource links. Mediawiki is the software that powers Wikipedia - the Internet's seventh most heavily visited website. In addition BSSD will demonstrate the Palo Alto Research Center's (PARC) Augmented Social Cognition Dashboard. Thanks to PARC the BSSD Open Content Curriculum system is the first implementation "in the wild" of the lab's Dashboard tool and its potential for collaborative work with curriculum will be explored.
