Description
In this session we will highlight a small school district’s unique 6-year experience in the implementation and utilization of a customized data warehouse to connect instruction to state standards. In 2002 this district implemented a customized data warehouse using SAS software to diagnose student learning prescribe and implement instructional strategies and assess effectiveness. Developing a data plan and focusing on data analysis has helped this district transform into a data-driven culture. This presentation will demonstrate how districts can drill down to the classroom level for informed instruction. It will provide information on how to pinpoint strengths and weaknesses on subgroup standards disaggregate data on the basis of NCLB factors track data overtime and measure growth on assessments. Although assessments are necessary knowing how to align data to instructional strategies is crucial for maximizing student achievement. Information will be provided about data teams and how they provide remediation for their schools. Furthermore information will be provided about how to develop data walls that provide continual insights for the district. This presentation will also showcase how the school district continually evolves its data warehouse by adding and subtracting customized reports. Beech Grove City Schools is a small (2500 students) urban district surrounded by Indianapolis Indiana. Since 2002 Beech Grove students have increased their state test scores by 17%. In 2008 Beech Grove High School was awarded a Medal of Distinction from US New and World Report. The high school has also been rated a ‘best buy’ by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce for 4 years.
