There are currently very few resources available to nurses who are new to the field of infertility to learn the basics of reproductive physiology. Most nurses now gain their knowledge about reproductive medicine through “on the job training", which can lead to them receiving incomplete or incorrect information. In order for them to do their job competently and provide the best possible patient care, it is vital that nurses receive the most accurate, up-to-date information available.
This one-day course is designed for nurses who are new to the field of infertility, as well as those who have experience in reproductive medicine. An in-depth explanation of how the male and female reproductive systems function will be presented, providing an accurate and complete knowledge base for nurses to whom the area of infertility is new, as well as a refresher course for experienced nurses to reinforce their understanding.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Outline and review male and female reproductive anatomy and physiology.
2. Examine hypothalamic feedback mechanisms and the role of FSH and LH.
3. Describe the menstrual cycle and correlate with clinical practice.
4. Discuss various endocrine disorders related to infertility, medications, and nursing implications.
5. Review the physiology of early pregnancy.
