The screening of egg donors is a resource-intensive process. Over the past 10 years, refinements and modifications in psychological screening of donors have taken place.
Psychological testing is considered standard of care when assessing oocyte donors; and the MMPI-2 is the most widely
used psychological test. This course will provide an overview of the current knowledge and experience regarding the use of the MMPI-2 as part of the psychological assessment of oocyte donors. We will review the common elements used in interpretation of the MMPI-2, including validity, clinical and content scales. In addition, we will present emerging research on the MMPI with donors, interpretation of the MMPI-2 in the evaluative setting, how to give feedback to donor applicants who are not accepted and how to defend the use of the MMPI-2 in legal settings. Case discussions will involve common issues when interpreting donor MMPIs. The audience will also be encouraged to bring material from their practice for discussion.
NOTE: This course will not prepare or qualify participants to administer or interpret the MMPI-2 in clinical practice. The course will be geared to participants with a basic understanding of and familiarity with the MMPI-2.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this course, participants should be able to:
1. Identify MMPI-2 validity scale profiles that may exclude a donor applicant.
2. Distinguish MMPI-2 profile codes that may exclude a donor applicant.
3. Summarize the clinical research related to MMPI-2 scores and donation outcome.
4. List the steps taken to provide feedback to donors who must be excluded.
