- Develop an antihypertensive regimen for patients with poorly controlled blood pressure (BP) that includes a thiazide diuretic and discuss the difference between chlorthalidone and hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ).
- Discuss when a two-drug antihypertension regimen is appropriate as initial therapy for a patient with hypertension.
- Explain the pros and cons for the use of a thiazide diuretic for most patients with hypertension.
- Outline features of a physician/pharmacist collaborative model for managing hypertension that achieves high BP control rates using principles from ALLHAT and JNC-7.
