Description
Radiologic procedures pose unique challenges to maintaining patient safety; errors can arise from communication gaps and from a lack of access to patient information while patients are in transition to and from radiological services. The Joint CommissionTM is focusing more attention on evaluating the safety of medication use associated with radiological procedures and has specifically categorized radiological agents as "drugs," placing them under the purview of the hospital pharmacy department. Now, the safety infrastructure that monitors and evaluates drugs used in other hospital areas must be applied to radiological service areas. Participants in this session acquire tools for improving medication safety within radiological service areas: a self-assessment matrix, parameters for pharmacist interventions, and items that warrant monitoring.
