Description
Part I Why Not Develop your own Remote Order Entry Service?
Part II The Joint Commission and Remote Order Entry: Interpreting the Standards
The session will review the various practice models for Remote Pharmacy services, which include, Independent companies, Hospital Systems, Large Hospitals providing service to smaller facilities and Small hospitals providing service to other Small and Rural Hospitals. The advantages and disadvantages of each of these models will be highlighted. In addition, the session will provide a template for your Hospital Pharmacy to develop a Remote Pharmacy Services program. I will give details on the development of the program, the barriers and successes. The creation of a quality improvement program for the service will also presented. Information will also be provided on the costs, and potential revenues for the service.
With this evolution, pharmacists must understand how the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations will survey their remote order entry processes. What is permissible with the existing standards and National Patient Safety Goals and what to expect as the standards are refined to meet the changing use of technology are important issues for those engaged in remote order entry or considering establishing a remote order entry model.
