Learning Objectives:
Identify the social and economic factors associated with the increased prevalence of type 2 diabetes in African American and Hispanic children and adolescents. Describe strategies to overcome barriers to decreasing the prevalence of type 2 diabetes in African American and Hispanic adolescents. Distinguish clinical features of type 1 versus type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents. Identify a patient-specific plan for the management of children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes.
