Joseph Hill currently serves as director of federal legislative affairs for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He advocates ASHP’s positions on critical issues before members of Congress and their staff. Prior to that he was government affairs manager for the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists where he represented ASCP before state and federal legislators. Mr. Hill holds a Master of Arts degree in political science from the University of Tennessee and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Description
This session will explore the critical issues facing health-system pharmacists in Congress, federal agencies and the states. Potential action on both the state and federal level in response to the meningitis outbreak, the lingering problem of drug shortages and efforts to achieve provider status will highlight the session.
- Describe the federal and state role in regulating compounding, managing and mitigating drug shortages, and participating in the 340B drug discount program.
- Explain the current approval pathway for biosimilars and state activity with respect to product interchangeability.
- Identify current federal regulatory and legislative issues impacting health-system pharmacists in a variety of settings.
