Description

*Bring your institution's most recent antibiogram to this session for evaluation by ID experts.*

Does the challenge of implementing an antimicrobial stewardship program seem daunting? It need not be! Participate in this session to master the fundamentals of gram-positive and gram-negative resistance; then, evaluate your own antibiogram with help from experts. By the time you leave, you’ll have what you need to get your hospital’s stewardship program off to a running start.

  • Describe and differentiate isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli that produce extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) from those that produce Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemases (KPCs).
  • Describe how to establish a plan to educate hospital administrators, physician leaders, and others about resistance patterns in your hospital.
  • Describe methicillin-resistant Staph aureus and contrast this to vancomycin-intermediate and vancomycin-resistant Staph aureus.
  • Using your own hospital antibiogram, estimate the rate of MRSA, VRE, ESBLs, KPCs, and stably derepressed ampC.
