The Education of the Provincial Pharmacist
Donald E. Francke Medalist: William A. Zellmer
William A. Zellmer, BS (Pharmacy), MPH, Writer-in-Residence, American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, will present a lecture titled, "The Education of a Provincial Pharmacist." The Donald E. Francke Medal was established to honor individuals who have made significant international contributions to hospital pharmacy.
Bill Zellmer has been on the staff of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists for most of his career, and currently serves as Writer-in-Residence.
While serving as ASHP s Deputy Executive Vice President, he coordinated ASHP s international relations, served as liaison to several international pharmacy organizations, and presented numerous addresses on pharmacy professionalism around the world.
Mr. Zellmer has served as Vice Chair of the steering committee for the Global Conference on the Future of Hospital Pharmacy, conducted by the Hospital Pharmacy Section of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) in Basel, Switzerland. He played a key role in organizing the North American Compact on the Advancement of Hospital Pharmacy, a collaborative among ASHP, the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, and the Mexican Association of Hospital Pharmacists. In October 2007, Mr. Zellmer served on the organizing committee for the Pachuca Conference, which assembled Mexican leaders from government, hospitals, and higher education to explore how the development of hospital pharmacy in the United States and Canada can help inform plans for improving hospital medication use in Mexico.
A pharmacy graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Mr. Zellmer also holds a Master of Public Health degree from The Johns Hopkins University. He completed an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency in the U.S. Public Health Service.
Please join Mr. Zellmer after the lecture to offer congratulations at a special reception for international registrants. The reception is an opportunity to network with your friends/colleagues from around the world. Light refreshments will be served.
