Darlene Currington, RPh is the Pharmacy Manager at Parkland Health Center (BJC Healthcare) in Farmington, Missouri where she has worked for sixteen years. She received the Parkland Leadership of the Year Award in 1999.
Darlene graduated from the University of Missouri at Kansas City- School of Pharmacy and moved to South Carolina where she worked in retail as a Pharmacy Manager for Revco for several years. She then moved to hospital pharmacy practice working as a staff pharmacist for Trident Regional Medical Center, in Charleston, South Carolina for nine years. While there, she gained experience working in a variety of roles including IV therapy, chemotherapy, and OR satellite. When Hurricane Hugo was approaching the Charleston coast in September, 1989, Darlene volunteered to stay overnight at the hospital and this turned into a four night stay when the roads home were all blocked with uprooted trees and storm debris. She received a first hand experience in disaster preparedness and follow-through, including the importance of computer downtime policies, when Hugo blew out many of the windows and knocked out the power and telephones at the seven-story hospital.
In 1993, Darlene moved back to her hometown of Farmington, with her husband and three sons, to take a position as staff pharmacist at Parkland Health Center. She was promoted to Pharmacy Manager in 1997. Darlene remains dedicated to ensuring the safety of all patients at Parkland.
