Thomas Kirschling,
PharmD, MS, Manager, Pharmacy Operations,

Thomas E. Kirschling is Manager of Pharmacy Operations at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Adjunct Instructor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. In addition to operational oversight of central and operating room pharmacies at UPMC Presbyterian, he oversees quality improvement programs, storage and security of medication including responsibility for controlled substances, and optimization of automation and workflow. He completed a combined residency with Masters of Science degree in Health-System Pharmacy Administration following completion of his Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin, completed Six Sigma Green Belt training from Motorola University, and is currently pursing a Master of Studies degree in Law from the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to commitments to state national and state organizations, he is dedicated to the teaching and mentoring of both students and residents.

Paul Krogh,

Abbott Northwestern Hospital - Allina Hospitals and Clinics
Paul is an Operations Manager at Abbott Northwestern Hospital (Allina Health System) in Minneapolis, MN. He is responsible for non-sterile dispensing operations, oversight of the pharmacy information system and automation, quality and medication safety management, controlled substance system oversight and auditing, pharmacy mental health services, and is a preceptor for Abbott Northwesterns ASHP-accredited PGY1 pharmacy residency program.
Paul received his PharmD from the University of Minnesota in 2004 and completed a two year, ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Practice Management residency at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in conjunction with a Masters in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from the University of Wisconsin.
Professionally Paul is an active member of the Minnesota Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) serving on as Board Member at Large and the co-chair for the 2008 Annual Meeting. Paul also is a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) Section Advisory Group on Pharmacy Business Management.

Bonnie Senst,

Allina Hospitals and Clinics
Bonnie L. Senst is System Director of Pharmacy for Allina Hospitals and Clinics, and serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Minnesota. Prior positions included Director of Pharmacy positions and Area Vice President for Pharmacy Practice Consulting and Clinical Services, McKessonHBOC MedManagement. Ms. Senst's 25 years of experience in staff, clinical and managerial roles spans over 100 community hospitals and academic medical centers.
Ms. Senst obtained her B.S. from the University of Wisconsin and M.S. from the University of Minnesota. She has been an active leader in ASHP and MSHP, and has received the MSHP Outstanding Pharmacist, Pfizer Pharmacist of the Year and Peer Recognition Awards. Ms. Senst coordinated the nation's first Board of Pharmacy approved Technician-Checking-Technician program and led development of other innovative pharmacy services and roles. Her presentations and publications discuss contemporary issues that relate to pharmaceutical care, medication process management and medication safety.

Rita Shane,

Rita Shane, Pharm.D., FASHP, FCSHP is Director, Pharmacy Services at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a 950 bed acute, tertiary care, teaching institution and Assistant Dean, Clinical Pharmacy Services, at UCSF School of Pharmacy. She is responsible for over 300 staff. Dr. Shanes big hairy audacious goal is to ensure that wherever patients need care, there is a demand for pharmacists to ensure optimal medication management. Dr. Shane is the recipient of the 2007 CSHP Pharmacist of the Year and the 2007 Distinguished Service Award, ASHP Section of Pharmacy Practice Managers. She was the 2005 recipient of the ASHP Distinguished Leadership Award and the 1995 recipient of the John Webb Visiting Professorship on management excellence. Dr. Shane is a co-investigator of 2 studies in collaboration with the UCSF School of Pharmacy to demonstrate the safety of allowing technicians to check technician filled medication cassettes in hospitals leading to the approval of regulation in California in 2007. Dr. Shane was co-investigator of a 2000 National Patient Safety Foundation Award to study The Impact of Dedicated Medication Nurses Upon the Rate of Medication Administration Errors: A Randomized, Controlled Trial" published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. She recently served as the U.S. facilitator at the Global Conference on the Future of Hospital Pharmacy held at the 68th FIP Congress and was responsible for reviewing the international literature on the subject of medication administration.. Dr. Shane is also one of the investigators of a multicenter study to evaluate medications errors recovered by ED pharmacists.
