Dr. Erstad is currently a full Professor and Assistant Department Head in the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Science at the University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. He is also a Center Investigator for the Center for Health Outcomes and Pharmacoeconomics Research and a co-director for the Arizona Clinical Research Training Program. His clinical responsibilities are performed at University Medical Center. Dr. Erstads research interests pertain to critical care medicine with an emphasis on patient safety and related outcomes research - he has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Erstad was on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists and has served on numerous committees and task forces for various organizations including AHRQ, USP, ISPOR, the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians. Dr. Erstad was the first pharmacist to receive the Society of Critical Care Medicines Shubin-Weil Master Clinician/Teacher Excellence in Bedside Teaching Award.

Dr. Miller has been a registered pharmacist for over 20 years with experience in clinical, management, and research environments in private, government, and academic sectors. He holds a BS degree in Pharmacy from the University of Pittsburgh, a MS degree in Pharmacy Administration from the University of Arizona, and a Doctor of Public Health Degree from the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health. Dr. Miller is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacy: Clinical and Administrative Sciences at The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy. Since 2001, the majority of Dr. Millers research has involved the study of health literacy. Using both primary and secondary data, he has focused his study on refining methods to measure and identify those at risk for low health literacy as well as to develop interventions to improve health literacy that ensure optimal medication use. Among the past and present partners for his research initiatives are the Iowa Health System, Polk County Iowa Senior Services, the American Society of Health System Pharmacists Research and Education Foundation and the University of Alabama Birmingham Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics (CERTs). Recently, he has presented research findings to the FDA Risk Communication Advisory Panel relating literacy, reading written medicine information, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug risk awareness. He has also served as co-facilitator for the health literacy subgroup at the Society of Hospital Medicine coordinated conference on medication reconciliation funded by AHRQ.

Almut Winterstein is presently an Associate Professor in Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy at the College of Pharmacy and Affiliate Assistant Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the College of Public Health and Health Professions at the University of Florida. She received her pharmacy degree from the Friedrich Wilhelm University in Bonn and a Ph.D in Pharmacoepidemiology from the Humboldt University in Berlin in 1999.

Almuts research interests focus on drug safety and effectiveness, and the evaluation and prevention of inappropriate drug use. Clinical focus areas of pharmacoepidemiologic studies include cardiology, endocrinology, psychiatry, and pediatrics. Her pharmacoepidemiologic work utilizes data from Florida Medicaid, U.S. National Databases, and the clinical and administrative data warehouse of Shands Healthcare at the University of Florida. Her interest in quality of care issues is primarily defined through her appointment as epidemiologist at UF&Shands teaching hospital quality and medication safety committees and focuses on the development and evaluation of medication safety programs, clinical decision support systems and quality metrics. Almut has received funding from the FDA, American Society of Health System Pharmacist (ASHP) Research Foundation, the Drug Information Association (DIA), the International Federation of Pharmacy Associations (FIP), and various state agencies including the Florida Department of Health. She is a chair of the Research Advisory Board of the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacist Research and Education Foundation and consultant in medication safety issues for the Florida Department of Rural Health.
