  • Demonstrate the ability to conduct a thorough interview with substance abusing patients that will detail drug-use histories, prior treatment, patient motivation for treatment, and comorbidity.
  • Describe chronic illness model of treatment in addicted patients.
  • Devise a plan to minimize the risk of the development of substance-use disorders with prescription medications and a plan to detect substance-use disorders should they occur.
  • Explain how to evaluate and effectively treat patients at risk for alcohol withdrawal.
  • Explain how to treat, refer, or manage pain patients who have untreated addiction, are in current addiction treatment, or are in recovery from addiction.
