Timothy Welty,
PharmD, FCCP, Professor and Chair,
University of Kansas
Dr. Welty is Professor and Chair in the Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Kansas. He has served as a preceptor for APPE students at several schools of pharmacy, both in faculty and non-faculty roles. Dr Welty earned his BS in Pharmacy from Butler University and his PharmD from the University of Minnesota where he also completed a clinical research fellowship. He also holds a MA degree from Trinity International University. He has worked as a hospital pharmacist, clinical specialist, and faculty member with an emphasis on neurology.

Sandra Benavides, PharmD, is an Assistant Professor at Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She received her PharmD at the University of California, San Francisco. She then completed a general practice residency at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center and a Pediatric Pharmacotherapy Fellowship at the Ohio State University under the mentoring of Dr. Milap Nahata. She currently teaches a pediatric pharmacotherapy elective and is a preceptor for an APPE in General Pediatrics. She was recently selected as the Outstanding Teacher for her experiential rotation.

Kevin Boesen, Pharm.D. is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy Practice and Science and Director of Experiential Education. His primary responsibility is managing the Introductory and Advanced Experiential Training. Dr. Boesen works with approximately 500 pharmacists at over 150 sites.
Prior to joining the faculty of The College of Pharmacy in 2004, Dr. Boesen worked in a variety of pharmacy and management positions. His experience includes positions in hospital pharmacy, retail pharmacy, the pharmaceutical industry, and the medical device industry. He has held manager level positions in retail pharmacy and manager and director level positions in both the pharmaceutical and medical device industry.
In addition to being the Experiential Education Director, Dr. Boesen serves as faculty advisor to the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Student Chapter. He received the Clinical Science Educator of the Year Award in 2006, the Extraordinary Faculty Award in 2008, and an Innovation in Teaching Award in 2008.

- Compare and contrast the expectations of students in Introductory (IPPE) and Advanced (APPE) Pharmacy Practice Experience rotations.
- Develop strategies for managing common issues (e.g., behavioral problems, academic integrity, professionalism) that arise in the experiential training of pharmacy students.
- Explain appropriate assessment of students in an experiential rotation.
- Explain how to document student performance during a rotation in a manner that supports assessment.
- Explain how to utilize teaching evaluations, feedback from students, and input from experiential training directors to improve the educational value of an experiential rotation.
