Kevin Garey, PharmD, MS, Associate Professor and Chair, University of Houston College of Pharmacy

Kevin Garey, PharmD, MS is an Associate Professor at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and Chair of the Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration. He received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, a Doctor of Pharmacy from SUNY Buffalo in Buffalo, NY, and a Masters of Science in Biometry from the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston, Texas. Postdoctoral training includes a pharmacy practice residency in Cooperstown, NY and infectious disease specialty residency and fellowship training in Chicago, IL. Dr. Garey's research interests involve infectious disease epidemiology and pharmacotherapy in patients with post-surgical infections including sternal wound infections, candidemia, and Clostridium difficile infection.

George Delgado, Jr., PharmD, Coordinator Emergency Pharmacy Services, Detroit Receiving Hospital

George Delgado, Jr., Pharm.D., is currently the Coordinator of Emergency Pharmacy Services at Detroit Receiving Hospital. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from University of Illinois College of Pharmacy in 2000. Dr. Delgado completed 2 ASHP-accredited residencies at Detroit Receiving Hospital, in Detroit Michigan, PGY1 Pharmacy Practice & PGY2 Infectious Diseases. In 2002, he assumed the position of a Clinical Pharmacy Specialist of Emergency Medicine at Detroit Receiving Hospital. In 2003, Dr. Delgado became the Coordinator of Emergency Pharmacy Services and Director of the ASHP-accredited Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Practice Residency. In 2008, Dr. Delgado became the Director of the ASHP-accredited Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Practice Residency.

Vikas Gupta, PharmD, BCPS, Director, Cardinal Health

Vikas Gupta, Pharm.D., BCPS, is Director of Clinical Research for Cardinal Health based in Marlborough, Massachusetts. He joined Cardinal Health in 1996 after working for several years as a pharmacotherapist in internal medicine at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center and its HIV clinic as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Illinois, College of Pharmacy in Chicago.

Dr. Gupta received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University Of Illinois College Of Pharmacy and completed an ASHP-accredited residency in clinical pharmacy practice from the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified as a pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS).

Dr. Guptas research interests focus on epidemiology, pharmacoeconomics and outcomes research. His forte is working with large administrative and clinical databases to conduct outcomes (clinical and financial) studies in various diseases, tying those data together with real world strategies for improvement. He has made presentations at numerous national and international medical and pharmacy meetings. He has also published in numerous medical journals.

Milap Nahata, PharmD, MS, Chairman and Professor, Pharmacy, Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, The Ohio State University - College of Pharmacy

Milap Nahata is Professor and Division Chair, Pharmacy Practice and Administration, College of Pharmacy; Professor of Pediatrics and Internal Medicine, College of Medicine; and Associate Director, Medical Center Department of Pharmacy, Ohio State University (OSU).

Nahata began his academic career in clinical pharmacy education, practice, research, and service at OSU in 1977. He has received six teaching awards from the College of Pharmacy, a university teaching award from Ohio State, and two distinguished educator awards from national associations. He is also a co-recipient of the Best Practices Award from the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and a Distinguished Practitioner in the National Academy of Practice.

With research focus in pediatric pharmacotherapy, Nahata has authored or coauthored over 500 peer reviewed journal articles or book chapters, and three books. He is a recipient of five research achievement awards from national organizations ACCP, ASHP, American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and Rho Chi Pharmacy Honor Society. He is a Fellow of ACCP, APhA, ASHP, American Academy of Microbiology, American College of Clinical Pharmacology, and American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Nahata is an elected member of the Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences. He has served as President of both AACP and ACCP, and as chair or member of various national committees within pharmacy, and of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH), FDA, USP and the Institute of Medicine. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Pharmacotherapy.

Joyce Tipton, RPh, MBA, Chief Pharmacy Officer, Baylor Clinic and Hospital

Joyce A. Tipton, RPh, MBA received her BS Pharmacy degree from the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and a Masters of Business Administration from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University. She has recently joined the Baylor College of Medicine as Chief Pharmacy Officer to develop the pharmacy program for the new Baylor Clinic and Hospital currently under construction. Prior to this position, Ms. Tipton was the Administrative Director of Pharmacy at St. Lukes Episcopal Hospital in Houston. Ms. Tiptons career also included positions at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC) and M D Anderson Cancer Center. She initiated critical care clinical pharmacy services at WFUBMC in 1990 and implemented one of the countrys earliest Emergency Department pharmacy services in 1995. Ms. Tipton developed the St. Lukes Center for Antimicrobial Stewardship and Epidemiology and doubled the pharmacy residency program at St. Lukes adding specialization in infectious diseases. She is Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and member of the Deans Advisory Council. She helped develop a concurrent Master of Science in Pharmacy Administration and Residency in Pharmacy Administration program for the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and Texas Medical Center hospitals. Ms. Tipton is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists, American Pharmacist Association, Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists, American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on the Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules Task Force.
