James Colbert Biographical Sketch
Dr. James Colbert is an accomplished and decorated leader in pharmacy with over 25 years of experience including academia, management, clinical practice, and professional pharmacy association service. Dr. Colbert currently serves as an associate clinical professor of pharmacy and an assistant dean of experiential education for the UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Dr. Colbert has a broad range of operational experience in pharmacy practice which has included assignments such as staff clinical pharmacist, pediatric clinical pharmacist, education coordinator, clinical coordinator, and clinical manager. His specific clinical interest is in pediatric hemoglobinopathies, with a primary focus on sickle cell anemia. He works with pediatric and adult patients, and is involved in numerous sickle cell anemia community educational activities.
A former U.S. Army officer, Dr. Colbert was decorated for his leadership and service during the First Persian Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm, (1990-1991) and the Bosnia peacekeeping campaign (1996). He has had extensive overseas military experience, including service in army pharmacy operations in Stuttgart, Hanau, and Heidelberg, Germany.
