David Angaran,
MS, Assistant Director Experiential Program,

Mr. Angaran began his pharmacy career as a US Air Force pharmacy technician, in 1962. He received his BS in Pharmacy from Drake University, in 1968 and MS in hospital pharmacy and residency from the University of Wisconsin, in 1970. As a critical care clinical practitioner educator he served as pharmacy faculty at the University of Wisconsin (1970-76), University of Minnesota (1976-1990) and University of Florida (1990-95) where he was Professor and Chair, Pharmacy Practice Department. He was elected to the ASHP board of directors, in 1988. Mr. Angaran left academia to pursue his interests in delivery of pharmacy care at a distance, working for Medco Health Solutions, an e-pharmacy startup”cranespharmacy.com” and a specialty pharmacy, Chronimed, Inc. In, 1998, he completed a one year ASHP managed care residency investigating Telemedicine and Telepharmacy. After a trial of semi retirement he returned to the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, in 2004, in the Office of Experiential Programs. Being old enough to qualify for Medicare he was selected to be Medicare Part D point person for the UF College of Pharmacy and has presented to health care professionals and the lay public about the topic. Mr. Angaran has contributed to the pharmacy literature through research publications, reviews and reflective writings about the life of a clinical practitioner. He recently was presented with the 2006 ASHP Award for Distinguished Leadership in Health Systems Pharmacy.

Daniel Buffington
Director of Pharmacy at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. St. Mary is a 366 bed, Level II Trauma Center in suburban Philadelphia. Obtained a BS in Pharmacy from the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia in 1995; and an MBA from St. Joseph's University, Philadelphia in 2005. A 2007 graduate of the ASHP/Cardinal Health Foundation sponsored Pharmacy Leadership Institute, Boston University School of Management, Boston, MA. Over three years in current role as director at St. Mary, previously Director of Pharmacy at Northeastern Hospital, Temple University Health System (2001-2005). Pior experience as Clincal Pharmacist and Senior Pharmacist at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, UPHS (1992-2001).

Debra S. Devereaux MBA, R.Ph., FASHP is a Senior Consultant for the Gorman Health Group LLC, a Washington, D.C. based Medicare consulting firm. Special areas of expertise include Medicare Part D Compliance, PBM Compliance,and Care Management/Disease Management for chronic conditions.
Previously, she was an adjunct clinical professor and served as DUR Manager for Wyoming Medicaid at the University of Wyoming School of Pharmacy in Laramie, Wy. She served as liaison to the Wyoming Department of Health, administered the Wyoming Drug Utilization Review Board, edited the newsletter, conducted population based research on diseases and chronic care and presented educational programming for physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health care providers in Wyoming
Debra began her pharmacy career as Assistant Director of Pharmacy at University Hospital in Denver, Colorado where she served on the UCHSC Institutional Review Board, the Nutrition Support team and had administrative responsibility for the clinical pharmacy programs.
Ms. Devereaux was the President of ASHP during 2002-2003 after serving on the ASHP Board of Directors for three years. She has served on numerous councils, commissions and committees for ASHP including Vice Chair of the ASHP Research and Education Foundation and Chair of the ASHP Commission on Goals. She served as Secretary of the American Drug Utilization Review Society.
Debra received a B.S. in pharmacy from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, and an MBA from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. She is a registered pharmacist in Colorado.

Stephen George
Barbara is a pharmacist with over 20 years of hospital experience in both teaching and non-teaching environments. She has a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut, MBA from Widener University and PharmD from the University of Colorado. Barbara completed an ASHP residency and attended the Leadership Institute. Currently Barbara is the Director of Pharmacy in a 302 licensed bed community hospital in Southern New Jersey. Barbara has installed multiple pharmacy information systems and automation in a variety of hospital settings in order to efficiently manage inventory and free up pharmacist for clinical activities in the patient care areas.

Biography
Roy Guharoy, Pharm.D., MBA, FCP,FCCP,FASHP
Dr. Roy Guharoy is currently the Chief Pharmacy Officer and Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Care System. Prior to joining the UMass team recently , he was the director of Pharmacy Services and Associate Professor of medicine at the SUNY - Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY. He completed his doctoral education at the University of Minnesota. Wearing numerous hats, Dr. Guharoy maintains clinical practice in infectious disease, teaches at medical college, preceptor of infectious disease training of doctor of pharmacy students from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. He is very active in numerous national and state professional organizations, has numerous research publications and presentations at national meetings and professional journals. Dr. Guharoy was the SUNY Chancellor’s award for outstanding professional services in 2005, SUNY President’s award for outstanding faculty services in 2004 His research interests include patient safety, adverse events and infectious diseases.

James M. Hoffman is the Medication Outcomes and Safety Officer in the Pharmaceutical Department at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. His position is focused on medication use policy, medication safety, quality improvement, and leadership of research pharmacy services. He received the Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy Degrees from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. In addition, he received a Masters Degree in pharmacy administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed a residency in pharmacy administration and a fellowship in outcomes research at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Hoffman is a board certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), and he currently serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Health-System Pharmacy (AJHP).

Dr. Neil MacKinnon is Associate Professor and Associate Director for Research at the Dalhousie University College of Pharmacy in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Neil is also cross-appointed to the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology, Faculty of Medicine, and to the School of Health Administration, Faculty of Health Professions.
Neil received his B.Sc. Pharmacy degree from Dalhousie. He then completed a M.Sc. in Hospital Pharmacy degree and an Advanced Administrative Residency at the University of Wisconsin. Following that, he completed a Ph.D. in Pharmacy Health Care Administration at the University of Florida and a Research Fellowship with Dr. Charles D. Hepler.
Neil has authored over 60 papers in the pharmacy and medical literature and he has given over 130 presentations to pharmacists, other health professions, and researchers. Neil has an active research program that focuses on improving the safety and quality of the medication-use system. In 2006, Neil was named a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists. Neil has edited two books published by the Canadian Pharmacists Association, “Seamless Care” and “Safe and Effective” and he is currently writing a new book with a family physician for patients.

I currently serve as the Assistant Director for Medication Safety for Novant Health in Winston-Salem, NC, where I lead system-wide medication safety and regulatory readiness for 3 hospitals in an 8 hospital health system. (150 bed community, 125 bed surgical specialty, and 1100 bed tertiary care center). My training and background include a PharmD from University of Montana and MS in Health-System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University. I also completed the ISMP Safe Medication Management Fellowship, and have worked as a staff pharmacist throughout my career.

Deb Swartwood Ash has over 30 years of pharmacy management experience and is currently President and CEO of Ash Pharmacy Consultants, providing Healthcare and Pharmacy consulting in the United States and Canada. Prior to her current position, Ms. Ash held a number of positions at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, with responsibilities for Care and Pharmacy Management in South Florida, disease management programs, Medicare Advantage and vendor management. Deb has been Executive Director for the Minnesota Society of Healthsystem Pharmacists as well as Director of Pharmacy for Memorial Medical Center in Ashland, Wisconsin. Ms. Ash also managed product development and served as a clinical pharmacy specialist for the Pharmacy Benefit Management subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota. Deb has also been the Pharmacy Manager for a medical oncology group and managed the IV Admixture Services for the University of Minnesota Hospitals and Clinics. Ms. Swartwood Ash received her Master's of Science degree in Hospital Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota and her Bachelor's of Science degree in Pharmacy from South Dakota State University. She has completed the Wharton Executive Development Program at the University of Pennsylvania. Deb has received numerous awards and honors including the Meritorious Service Award from MSHP, Women in Pharmacy Leadership as well as Rho Chi and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies. Ms. Swartwood Ash is currently a licensed pharmacist in Florida and Minnesota. Deb resides with her husband in Victoria Beach, Nova Scotia and enjoys sailing in the Florida Keys and Bahamas.

Joyce A. Tipton, RPh, MBA received her BS Pharmacy degree from the University of Houston and a Masters of Business Administration from Wake Forest University. Joyce is the Administrative Director of Pharmacy at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital / Health System Director, Comprehensive Pharmacy Services Medication Management in Houston, Texas. She is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Clinical Sciences and Administration with the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Her career has included positions at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, as well as experience in home infusion, school-based clinic, and retail pharmacy. Joyce is a member of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and the Texas Society of Health System Pharmacists. She serves on the Dean’s Advisory Council for the University of Houston College of Pharmacy and various industry advisory boards. Joyce has a special interest in pharmacy practice outcomes and systematic quality improvement application in the medication use process. She is a certified instructor in Civil Management. Joyce is a Senior Preceptor for Practice Management.

I have trained over 90 residents in my career and mentored numerous clincal pharmacists, pharmacy students, staff and young leaders. My interest in helping pharmacists be successful comes from my work on Leadership and the publication of Success Skills in AJHP which will continue in 2008.
