Leslie is currently the Program Director for Computerized Provider Order Entry Systems at Duke and has completed implementation of the McKesson Horizon Expert Orders system in adults and pediatrics. This system is rich in decision support. She has a leadership role in the integration of Clinical information systems at Duke. Her team of 18 analysts has responsibility for oversight of the McKesson®, Varian® and Wellsoft® order entry systems, medication and allergy integration, and VARIAN Med and Radiation oncology systems.
She has practiced for most of her professional career at Duke University Health System, serving in a variety of capacities in the Department of Pharmacy and most recently in Hospital Information Systems. Her past responsibilities have included oversight of all areas of Pharmacy. Leslie assumed a role which included oversight of all Pharmacy Information systems, automation and the departmental liaison to information systems throughout Duke in 1993. In this capacity she implemented numerous pharmacy systems including Cerner, Pharmnet, the McKesson Rxobot and HMM systems, and Pyxis as well as IT oversight of the departmental network, Web integration, outpatient, inventory and custom database systems.
Ms Mackowiak earned a baccalaureate degree from the University of Illinois and a master degree in pharmacy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has lectured on many aspects of information systems. She has represented pharmacy in many capacities both within the state and nationally. She currently represents NCAP on the NCHICA Standing Advisory Committee.
