Barbara Van Horne, PTCB Associate Executive Director, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board
Barbara A. Van Horne, MBA, Ph.D.
Dr. Van Horne earned her doctorate in 1979 and MBA in 2002. From 1979 to 2007, she was in a multidisciplinary private practice and providing supervision to clinical psychology graduate students as a Senior Clinical Consultant to the UW-Madison Department of Psychology. Currently, she continues to serve as a Consulting Editor to Professional Psychology: Research and Practice and is licensed as a psychologist in Wisconsin.
She was inducted into the National Academies of Practice as a Distinguished Practitioner in Psychology in 2000, and became Fellow of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) in 1998 and of the American Psychological Associtaion (APA) in 2006.
As a member of the Wisconsin Psychology Examining Board for 10 years, 4 years as chair, she became involved with ASPPB. She had the pleasure of serving on the ASPPB Board of Directors for 6 years. Dr. Van Horne was the Director of Professional Affairs with ASPPB from 2006-7 during which she was responsible for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology, psychology’s equivalent to the NAPLEX.
Currently, she is the Associate Executive Director of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) in Washington, D.C.

Angela T. Cassano, Pharm.D., BCPS
President, Pharmfusion Consulting, LLC-Midlothian, Virginia
A graduate of Campbell University School of Pharmacy, Dr. Cassano completed two residencies at the Virginia Commonwealth University, including a joint specialty residency in adult medicine and pediatrics. During her career she has held positions as a hospital clinical pharmacist, clinical assistant director, and Assistant Health System Director of Quality Assurance and Drug Safety.
Dr. Cassano established Pharmfusion Consulting in 2005 as an independent consulting company assisting primarily health-system pharmacies with improving pharmacy operations through clinical expertise and practice. The company focuses on quality and regulatory assurance, medication safety and technology, clinical programs and operations solutions.
Barbara Hintzen, CPhT, BBA, is the Operations / Purchasing Manager at the University of Minnesota Medical Center, Fairview. Barb has completed an ASHP accredited technician program and has been a PTCB certified technician since 1995. She received her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. Barb has chaired and co-chaired the advisory committee for Century College’s Pharmacy Technician program (2001-2007). She was a key member in revising the Minnesota Society of Hospital Pharmacist’s guidelines and training packet for Tech-Check-Tech (2003). Barb also has served on a variety of pharmacy professional committees and is currently an active member of local and state professional organizations.
Melissa Murer Corrigan, RPh, Executive Director and CEO, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)
Melissa Murer Corrigan is the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), a national certification program for pharmacy technicians, since its inception in 1995. Prior to PTCB, she was a Marketing Research Associate with the American Red Cross. From 1991-93, Corrigan served as Project Manager for the Scope of Pharmacy Practice Project, a task analysis of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. Corrigan completed the American Pharmaceutical Association-National Council of State Pharmacy Association Executives Executive Residency in Association Management. As part of her residency, Corrigan worked with the Missouri Pharmacy Association. Corrigan also practiced as a Community Pharmacist for Walgreens in Chicago, Illinois. She is a graduate of Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences and serves on the Drake University Pharmacy National Advisory Council. In addition, Corrigan serves on the Board of Directors for the Council on Credentialing in Pharmacy.
Corrigan directs the overall conduct of pharmacy’s only nationally accredited certification program for pharmacy technicians. Since 1995, PTCB has certified over 300,000 Pharmacy Technicians nationwide through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination and transfer process. Corrigan is a member of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board of Governors, serving as Secretary.
The PTCB is governed by five organizations: American Pharmacists Association; American Society of Health-System Pharmacists; Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists; Michigan Pharmacists Association; and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. Patty has a Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Science Education from the University of Florida (Gainesville) and has over 13 years of experience as a pharmacy technician in a wide variety of areas including OR satellites operations, IV therapy and information management systems and became a Certified Pharmacy Technician in July of 2002. She has taught for over 14 years in Health Science and Health Occupations courses at the middle and high school levels and is currently a professor and Pharmacy Technology Coordinator at Lake City Community College. She is a member of the Pharmacy Technician Educators Council, the American Society of Health System Pharmacist, and the Florida Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists of which she received the 2005 Pharmacy Technician of the Year award. Most recently she has actively participated in the legislative process to require pharmacy technician registration with the FSHP Legal and Regulatory Committee.
