Dr. Golembiewski has over 20 years of active pharmacy experience, with the majority concentrated in the areas of operating room pharmacy and anesthesiology. Currently, Dr. Golembiewski is a clinical pharmacist in anesthesia/pain at the University of Illinois Medical Center with a shared appointment in the Departments of Pharmacy Practice and Anesthesiology and a faculty appointment of Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. At the UIMCC, Dr. Golembiewski is a member of several committees including the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) and the Glycemic Control Committee. She is co-coordinator for the UIC Department of Anesthesiology for the Midwest Anesthesia Residents Conference, the third largest anesthesiology meeting in the United States. Dr. Golembiewski teaches pharmacy students and anesthesiology resident physicians, as well as participates in research at UIMC. |

Dr. Peggy Bickham, PharmD, Assistant Director, Specialty and Support Services, University of Illinois Medical Center
Peggy Bickham, PharmD is Assistant Director, Specialty and Support Services, and Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmacy Practice at the University of Illinois Medical Center. She is manager of the operating room pharmacy satellite, and pharmacy liaison for Medical Center diagnostic and procedure areas. Her responsibilities include medication use guideline development in imaging areas, process improvements in the operating room pharmacy, and pharmacy student teaching. |
Mr. Eric Chernin, BSPharm, Pharmaceutical Care Specialist-OR Pharmacy, Sarasota Memorial Hospital
Eric L. Chernin is a graduate of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy. Eric has practiced in the operating room at Sarasota Memorial Hospital since 1990. He has been involved on a national level with the OR Pharmacy Services Association, sitting on the editorial board of that organizations quarterly publication and the editorial board of Anesthesia Today. He has made numerous presentations on OR pharmacy related topics and has published papers in both AJHP and the American Journal of Anesthesiology. He received an award for best scientific exhibit at the 1997 meeting of the International Anesthesia Research Society- Clinical and Scientific Congress. He has served as a peer reviewer for AJHP for selected anesthesia-related papers as well as having participated in numerous platform presentations at ASHP Clinical Mid-year meetings. Additionally, he has participated in ASHP-Advantage anesthesia-related continuing education programs. He serves as a preceptor for PharmD students and PGY1 residents. |

Dr. Deborah Wagner, BS, PharmD, Associate Clinical Professor of Pharmacy, University of Michigan Health Systems
Deborah Wagner, PharmD is a clinical associate professor for the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy a clinical assistant professor for the Department of Anesthesiology. After receiving her PharmD degree from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy, Dr. Wagner was involved with home-care delivery, nursing home services, cardiology and critical care, and outpatient pharmacy management. She is also the current pediatric safety coordinator for the health care system.
At the University of Michigan, Dr. Wagner is currently responsible for Operating Room pharmacy practice in the areas of pediatric and obstetric anesthesia. Dr. Wagner precepts PharmD students and residents, teaches for the College of Pharmacy, School of Medicine, and Graduate Nurse Practitioner program at the University, She actively participates in the development of clinical research studies within the Department of Anesthesiology. Dr. Wagner provides pain management consultation for the pediatric acute pain service and is a member of the hospitals pain steering committee.
She currently coordinates emergency medical services medication protocols in the Southeastern Michigan Region, as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation protocols within the University of Michigan Health Systems. She is a member of the State Advisory Board on Bioterrorism and Emergency Preparedness.

More often than not, pharmacists are left in the cold when it comes to medication use in the OR, in the Cath Lab, and by Anesthesia. What really happens? How can pharmacy services be best utilized in these unique settings? Find this out and more in this session that will look into the future of pharmacy services. This session was planned in cooperation with the ASHP Quality Improvement Initiative.
