Chad Beebe is a registered architect, a Certified Fire Protection Specialist, a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, and a Certified Building Official. He is currently Director of Advocacy for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association.
He serves on many national panels and committees that develop regulations

Tim Adams,

Tim Adams is the Director of Member Professional Development for the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) and is involved in the areas education, code and standard compliance and advocacy. Mr. Adams has nearly 25 years of experience of involvement in the healthcare physical environment and compliance, with over 20 years working directly with hospitals in the areas of Clinical Engineering and Facilities Management. He represents the ASHE members on advocacy issues, and is a long-term faculty member for ASHE educational programs as well as a frequent speaker at ASHE and other regional and national conferences. Tim is a Past President of the Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering (ISHE) and the Indiana Biomedical Society (IBS). He is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM), a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) and a Senior ASHE Member (SASHE).

David Stymiest P.E., CHFM, CHSP, FASHE is a nationally recognized speaker, trainer and author. He is presently a Senior Consultant at Smith Seckman Reid, Inc. providing a variety of compliance consulting services to SSR's healthcare clients. Before joining SSR, he was Senior EE for more than 10 years for Massachusetts General Hospital and the other hospitals of Boston-based Partners HealthCare System. David has over 40 years intensive professional experience in facilities and electrical engineering for health care, institutional, industrial, commercial, civil works, transportation, and electrical utility projects. He has also been an Owner and hospital engineer. He is acknowledged as a forward-thinking leading industry expert in the management, operation, testing, and application of emergency power systems in health care facilities. He is a CHFM, CHSP, ASHE Fellow and Registered PE in three states. David is Chairman of the NFPA Technical Committee on Emergency Power Supplies, which is responsible for NFPA 110 and NFPA 111.

Bill Koffel is President of Koffel Associates, a fire protection and life safety engineering design and consulting firm, recognized as an expert in the fire protection and life safety aspects of codes and standards. Headquartered in the Baltimore-Washington metropolitan area, the firm provides consulting; engineering design & construction administration; codes & standards development; seminar development & training; product testing & evaluation / representation; and litigation support to public and private clients worldwide. Bill remains active in the development process of the industry’s governing codes, standards and design guidelines including International Code Council (ICC), NFPA, Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and Underwriters Laboratory (UL). As former code official with the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, he was conducted licensure, certification, and accreditation surveys of various health care facilities. Bill serves on numerous NFPA Technical Committees including the Life Safety Technical Committee on Health Care Occupancies and serving as the Chair of the Life Safety Technical Correlating Committee.

Susan McLaughlin is a Managing Director of MSL Healthcare Consulting, a full service consulting firm in the environment of care and capital lifecycle planning. She has 8 years of prior consulting experience as President of SBM Consulting, Ltd. She is a Fellow of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) of the American Hospital Association. Previous positions include Director of Safety and Compliance for ASHE, and Associate Director, Standards Interpretation, Environment of Care Standards, for The Joint Commission.

Dave Dagenais is currently the Director of Plant Operations and Security at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH. He is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manger, a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional and a SASHE with the American Society of Healthcare Engineers. Dave has been in the Healthcare industry and code development process for over 18 years. He currently sits on the following committees: NFPA Healthcare section Executive Board, NFPA 730 Technical Committee Guide for Premises Security, NFPA 731 Technical Committee Standard for the Installation of Electronic Premises Security Systems, NFPA Healthcare section Codes and Standards Review Committee, NFPA 99 Technical Collating Committee, NFPA 99 Technical Committee on Electrical Systems, NFPA 99 Technical Committee on Emergency Management and Security and he has been appointed to the NFPA Healthcare Interpretation Task Force. Dave is the past President of the NH Society of Healthcare Engineers, past President of the New England Healthcare Engineers Society, the Region 1 Director for the American Society of Healthcare Engineers and the Chair of the American Society of Healthcare Engineers Advocacy Committee.

Description
In this session, ASHE’s codes and standards experts will discuss emerging codes and standards issues facing health care facilties and offer answers to your specific questions. Attendees are invited to ask questions on any of the codes and standards related to health care facilities, including NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code and NFPA 101: Life Safety Code®. During the last 20 minutes of this session, you will hear for ASHE’s Tim Adams, who will discuss “why we do what we do.” Join us as we look at the opportunities before us to carry our professional mission forward and celebrate our contribution in providing a physical environment that is effective, safe, and comforting for patients. This session will enable you to:
Identify issues commonly faced by health care facilities.
