Description
The presenter will examine the evolution of nurse call technology, including changes in the function and placement of system components, opportunities for interoperability with medical equipment, and advances in infant security and other in-room technologies. This session will enable you to:

● Recognize, based on examples provided, the design issues presented by the function and typical placement of nurse call system components.
● Discuss the opportunities for improvement in patient safety offered by changes in nurse call technology.
● Describe the coordination needed to integrate nurse call and medical equipment technologies, using the examples given.
● Identify the operational impact of design decisions by comparing building code requirements to the functional requirements for call completion.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Analyze the requirements for technology integration using a sample application to understand coordination implications
  • Contrast building codes to functional requirements of call completion to understand the operational impact of design decisions
  • Derive an understanding of the evolution of the technology through an examination of history
  • Recognize system components, their typical placement, and their function through project examples to understand design impact
