David Larson, Director, Facility Management,
CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital
David Larson is Director of Facility Management for the Centracare Health System in central Minnesota. David has responsibilities over Facility Development (construction), Maintenance, and Bio-Medical Engineering for Centracare. After college, David found himself working for a commercial construction firm in northern Minnesota working his way from the field to the management office. He attributes this learning experience as one of the reasons for his success at such an early age in his career. “This hands on work brings perspective every day” says Larson of his current responsibilities for the Health System. Managing a staff of 45 people, representing three different departments, is the most rewarding aspect of Larson’s job. “The talent that surrounds me is some of the best in the business” – says Larson. “I have the privilege of working with them and I hope they feel the same way about me”. Larson takes a practical approach to everything that he does. His predecessor at Centracare always asked of him, “what does common sense tell us” when trying to troubleshoot a situation. This advice is in the forefront of the decision making process for Larson. He is so blessed in life and in work and hopes his career is long lasting in the Healthcare industry.

Description
St. Cloud Hospital faced the challenge of seamlessly incorporating the latest technology throughout its existing facilities at the same time a new addition was coming online. Through careful planning and integration, the hospital staff and design team worked together to converge existing and new systems into a unified whole while still fully meeting the daily needs of patients and staff. This session will enable you to-
• Discuss the advantages, as demonstrated in the case studies, of converging technology onto a single IP platform to meet the requirements of facility, IT, and clinical departments in order to consider their potential impact on other health care facility projects.
• Adapt the collaborative strategy for technology design and selection presented in the case study to assess hospital technology systems in other scenarios.
• Develop an effective planning and design process, using information from the case study, to facilitate integration of IT systems throughout a facility to support high-quality patient care delivery.
• Create an effective and efficient project team, based on information from the case study, that collaborates to ensure all technology systems in a facility are synergized to provide a functional, efficient IT system that supports all functions.
-
Discuss technology convergence and associated design considerations when planning an addition project.
-
Discuss the use of a collaborative apporach between the Facilities and IT depatrments on the technology design in a large addition project
-
Learn how one hospital addressed the challenges of incorporating new technology while working to create a uniform experience for patients and staff.
