Description
Most emergency departments currently operate at or above capacity, a trend likely to continue. Adding ED space without improving throughput is cost-prohibitive and ineffective. Hear how three hospitals are undertaking expansion by implementing lean strategies to maximize throughput, improve the patient experience, and incorporate flexibility. This session will enable you to-
• State three methods, as cited in the study, that have been used to improve throughput and patient outcomes in an emergency department.
• Develop a tool, based on best practices presented, that can be modified and used to evaluate the impact that lean design can have on the creation of emergency departments with improved patient care and patient satisfaction.
• List three successful design strategies, based on a review of the case study and data provided, that can be adapted to existing facilities in order to provide effective and efficient patient care services.
• Describe the impact that lean design has, based on research and case studies, on patients and staff in terms of efficiencies and the provision of high-quality care.
-
Describe three strategies for reducing door to doc time.
-
Evalute approaches for overcoming impediments to implementing LEAN principles in challenging renovation projects.
-
Formulate strategies for incorporating flexibility into renovation projects.
