Description
Traditionally, building information modeling (BIM) has focused on documentation and not fully captured or tracked strategic programmatic information associated with early project phases. Inputting this information into a building model ensures continuity of information when the project moves from the design phase to the documentation and construction phases. This case study presentation demonstrates how incorporating the right information can preserve intellectual capital through occupancy and beyond. This session will enable you to-
• Describe how incorporating key information categories into a BIM model can help project teams and health care organizations develop and manage spaces in multiple campus buildings.
• Explain how programmatic information included in a BIM model can be used to help guide facility managers and capital planners in decision-making for future projects.
• List the types of information, as shown in the case study, that a project team can plan to incorporate in the BIM model to facilitate design, construction, and maintenance of the health care facility.
• Explain the importance of planning, as shown in case study, for delivering a health care facility project on time, on budget, and ready for operations and maintenance.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Describe how initiating BIM in early stages of design can preserve intellectual capital through occupancy and beyond
  • Dissect use of BIM platforms for programming, gaming and stacking
  • Examine how a dynamic design process with constant changes in space allocations can be managed within a BIM model
  • Identify key information owners and users could incorporate into the BIM model, which would be valuable to manage spaces in multiple campus buildings
