Description
The challenges facing the new Parkland Hospital team included simultaneously executing a campus master plan, designing a new acute care hospital, and setting campus design vocabulary, while meeting an aggressive project delivery schedule and overall program budget. This session explores how the team established a clear design vision for the project, organized effective decision-making, and created a work environment for high-performance project delivery. This session will enable you to-
• List the steps a project team can use, based on the case study, to establish a project vision, build a collaborative team, and create an environment that facilitates project success.
• Describe three strategies based on the case study for connecting the planning process to all major stakeholders in a health care institution-the community, neighboring institutions, caregivers, and patients.
• Apply methods demonstrated in the case study for creating adaptable healing environments that meet the health care needs of communities.
• List several methods, as presented in the case study, that have been successfully used to measure the impact of design innovation on patient care.

LEARNER OUTCOMES:
  • Demonstrate how a shared Team Covenant establishes improved collaboration and trust amongst team members.
  • Explore the steps taken to establish a vision for the project, build the right team, and create an environment that facilitates a successful project.
  • Identify strategies for connecting the planning process to all major stakeholders in a public academic healthcare institution; community, urban context, neighboring institutions, caregivers and patients.
  • Learn how co-location of the project delivery team results in improved human interaction, utilization, and outcomes of design management tools.
