Description
Do copper or silver doorknobs, or antimicrobial carpets reduce infection? Do HEPA filters reduce infections outside of specialty areas such as BMTs and are they necessary in the OR? This session will examine the evidence for whether specific materials or ventilation can affect patient infectious outcomes, as well as cost effective strategies to achieve a cleaner, energy saving, safer environment. This session will enable attendees to:
· Apply current evidence when selecting materials or methods claiming to reduce infection
· Explain the reasons why and when HEPA filtration makes sense—and when it doesn't
· Discuss the evidence for why new OR ventilation designs balance energy and safety
