Description
At no time has there been a greater need to connect the work of the dental educator to the social and environmental challenges faced by faculty throughout the university. At the same time, excellence in teaching goes beyond student evaluations. The scholarship of teaching and learning is an intellectual activity using critical reflection and public review to enhance student learning. Explore SoTL from the university perspective to the classroom experience, with administrators and faculty collaborating to share practices in dental education.
Learning Objectives
• Identify ways in which the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) can be supported and implemented by administrators and faculty in allied and predoctoral dental education
• Explore ways in which educators may become careful observers of their teaching process, gain an understanding of how their students learn, and personally evaluate the effectiveness of their teaching.
• Discuss examples of how faculty can mentor and recruit students to pursue careers in allied or predoctoral dental education.
• Identify ways in which SoTL can encourage interdisciplinary development of ideas to better prepare and reward the future generation of dental educators
