Description
It’s heartening to learn that Green Chemistry and its significance is increasingly being accepted and practiced in many industries and research of many academics. However, the numbers are still very small, especially in a developing nation like ours. What we must do is to make concerted and sustained efforts to educate today’s students and our succeeding generations of chemists, so that they have the skills and knowledge to practice Chemistry in ways benign to human health and environment.

With the objectives of preparing students better for the industries and research, relevant with the pertinent global issues, University of Delhi is under the process of radical revision of its curriculum. In the light of this development, attempts are being made to infuse green chemistry into the existing courses. While this integration is going on, we believe that university students can be exposed to the philosophy of Green Chemistry through short-duration courses.

With the support of Green Chemistry Network Centre, we, at Department of Chemistry, Hindu College have been conducting ‘Add-on Course’ on Green Chemistry, successfully for the third consecutive year. The course comprises of interactive classroom lectures, exciting laboratory exercises and concludes with student assessments and presentations. The course is popular not only amongst the science students but also students from social sciences - that is, amongst all those who wish to contribute for a better, greener and safer Earth.

The overwhelming response of students has driven us to propose induction of certain interesting laboratory experiments for the undergraduate programme.
