Description
This session will provide an overview of the purpose and development of the Quarantine Release Errors White Paper. This document was authored by an AABB inter-organizational task force following a 2010 meeting of the US Department of Health and Human Services Advisory Committee for Blood Safety and Availability where quarantine release errors (QREs) were identified as a risk factor in discussions of reducing the deferral period from blood donation for male-to-male sex. A discussion of the blood product deviation (BPD) codes for quarantine release errors that enable better tracking and trending QREs and the application of risk assessment to patients and as an approach to selecting preventative actions will be discussed.
