Description
AABB Bulletin #12-03 recommends that blood collecting organizations provide donors with information on the risks of post donation iron deficiency and should take action(s) to monitor, limit, or prevent iron deficiency in blood donors. This session will review the various options instituted by the blood centers in the United States in response to this bulletin. This session will also review the role of point of care testing like zinc protoporphyrin to assess the donor's body iron stores. In addition we will review the data from one blood donor center that increased the inter-donation interval.
