Description
Evidence-based clinical practice guidelines are playing an increasingly important role in patient care. Considering the development of clinical guidelines in transfusion medicine a strategic priority, AABB commissioned a subgroup of its Clinical Transfusion Medicine Committee to prepare guidelines for appropriate indications for Red Blood Cells. These guidelines provide physicians with important guidance regarding when it is appropriate to transfuse hemodynamically stable patients. During this session, speakers will discuss these new guidelines and the process for developing evidence-based guidelines based on a systematic review of the literature and pursuant to the GRADE methodology.
-
Explain AABB's process for developing guidelines using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) methodology.
-
Highlight the importance of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines as a means of improving patient care, implementing patient blood management, promoting quality care and potentially reducing health-care costs.
-
Review recently published AABB guidelines for appropriate RBC indications.
