Description
The receptors for human pathogens such as West Nile virus and babesiosis have now been identified on human red cell proteins. In addition, susceptibility to and disease progression in HIV infection has recently been correlated to both protein and carbohydrate-based blood group phenotypes. This program will discuss these new findings and present data as to how they may be targets for vaccine and drug development to prevent or treat infection and disease.

- Describe work done with various blood group proteins to identify the target for West Nile virus infection.
- Discuss new findings for babesiosis and its receptors on red cells.
- Identify blood groups that affect the susceptibility and disease progression for HIV infection.
