Historical Practices and Inventory Management
Description
Historically, organizational goals were to increase overall collections with the assumption that it would yield the right product mix. This session will speak to how collection strategies were not aligned with the voice of the customer, which resulted in not collecting the necessary components with the correct ABO. This caused an increase in outdates, as well as a higher dependency on product imports. To operate more efficiently, blood centers are partnering with hospitals to establish true product demand, based on actual needs. Innovative recruitment strategies in addition to donor and staff education to build a robust "pull system" will also be discussed in this session. These strategies and initiatives will minimize waste and reduce outdates and imports, thus lowering costs and creating opportunity for self-sufficiency.
-
Establish true customer demand to create a robust "pull system" for better inventory management.
-
Outline challenges and opportunities for recruiting and collecting the right product mix at the right time.
-
Share strategies to educate and engage donors and staff on patient needs based on the right products with the right ABO/Rh.
