Description
Pulmonary complications of transfusion include transfusion- related acute lung injury (TRALI) and transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO). Ongoing monitoring of these adverse effects in surveillance systems allows for a comparison of the frequency and severity of these two conditions as well as further analysis of a third syndrome, transfusion-associated dyspnea. Data on donor and recipient risk factors for these conditions, obtained from a recently completed prospective study (NHLBI SCCOR), will be discussed.
