Description
To ensure safe blood component administration, nurses, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and medical technologists must be aware of required best practices for blood component distribution, verification, administration and transfusion documentation. Using short lectures, case studies, and audience participation, this workshop will discuss current challenges to providing safe transfusions in hospitals and discuss practical strategies for improvement.

  • Describe current research in blood component administration safety.
  • Discuss best practices for bedside blood component administration.
  • Explain strategies for improving blood management practices and transfusion safety.
  • Explore the current state of nursing blood component transfusion education and practices.
