Description
Puget Sound Blood Center has implemented remote allocation at a number of hospitals as part of the centralized transfusion service delivery model. Remote allocation allows blood to be stored and assigned at the point of use in hospitals, eliminating manual steps and transport time. Electronic crossmatches can be fully automated, C:T ratios are improved, and the patient safety is enhanced by providing access only to the appropriate unit for the patient. This session will review the lessons learned during the first year's experience with remote allocation and planned future phases and initiatives.
-
Compare transfusion practices that enhance the benefits of remote allocation.
-
Explain remote allocation in a centralized transfusion service setting.
-
Review the role of remote allocation in increasing patient safety and improving service delivery levels.
