Description
This session will review the scientific rationale for the provision of antigen matched RBCs for patients with sickle hemoglobinopathies. Various molecular and serologic strategies for the provision of these products will be discussed. An evidence-based medicine approach will be provided to the audience regarding transfusion targets. Transfusion support issues in patients undergoing stem cell transplantation will be critically examined.
