Description
OBJECTIVES:- Discuss incidence trends of transfusion transmitted Babesia and Anaplasmosis, and review cases of transfusion transmitted Babesia in an endemic region in the Northeastern U.S.
- Describe the prevalence of likely parasitimic blood donors in Connecticut identified by an investigational nucleic acid test for Babesia microti.
- Review advantages and performance of a new investigational ELISA screening test for Babesia microti.
- Evaluate the utility of a malaria risk assessment model to drive decisions about deferrals of U.S. blood donors with history of travel to Mexico.
- Judge the safety of blood collected from donors with past history malaria.
