Description
The Hemovigilance Module of the National Healthcare Safety Network was developed through a partnership between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) to provide U.S. hospitals that transfuse blood and blood components the opportunity to enroll and contribute data on adverse events associated with blood transfusions. This audioconference will present background information about the National Hemovigilance Program; including it's purpose and anticipated program outcomes. An overview of this surveillance system will be presented explaining how program enrollment can improve patient safety through identification of trends within a particular transfusion service as well as through comparative analysis and review at a national level. The second portion of this audioconference will discuss implementation and utilization of the Hemovigilance Program through the perspective of the transfusion service of a large academic medical center. Please note that this audioconference will focus on the transfusion service portion of the National Hemovigilance Program.
