RFID at the Point of Transfusion
Description
Positive patient Identification is paramount to transfusion safety. The implementation of point of care technologies optimizes provision of products from specimen collection through transfusion. In this workshop, we'll discuss the value gained by integrating 2-D and RFID technology with transfusion and medication therapies. Included in the discussion will be hardware and software requirements for installing, implementing, and maintaining the integrated technology. Also, integration of positive ID and ISBT will be discussed.

Describe elements and performance of 2-D and Radio Frequency (RFID) Barcode technology in printers, scanners and PDA's in the realm of Blood Banking and Transfusion medicine.

Discuss integration of 2-D and RFID technology with ISBT formats, Blood Bank software for product traceability and data storage and generation of records, labels, and slips.

Identify and discuss mechanisms of achieving positive patent identification from blood collection to transfusion/infusion using 2-D and RFID technology embedded in armbands and blood product records.
