Automation Innovation
Description
As workload in the blood bank increases and the shortage of lab professionals threatens, the addition of automation in the blood bank allows for improved efficiency and staffing. During the selection process of a new analyzer, quality metrics and methods can aid in decision making. This program will discuss the use of decision tools and cost/benefit models for the selection and implementation of automation in the blood bank.

  • Clarify parameters to consider when evaluating the appropriate blood bank analyzer for a facility.
  • Define the use of decision matrix management tools in the selection of automation in the blood bank.
  • Review the cost/benefit model that may be used to evaluate different types of automated blood bank analyzers.
