Transfusion challenges in patients treated for ITP
Description
When patients present with Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura one primary goal is not to transfuse unless absolutely necessary. When the decision is made to transfuse, close patient monitoring should be done and careful product selection should be made. This program will look at the best way to manage the transfusion needs of an ITP patient.

Determine which platelet products should be used, crossmatched vs. HLA matched

Discuss transfusing Rh positive vs. Rh negative products

Review positive antibody screen and DAT evaluations due to IVIG dosing
